Canal life
It has been an extremely hot day yesterday so it was pretty crowded at the canals of Utrecht yesterday. I have been there with a friend to buy an Italian icecream.

Historic paintings
I have visitied the church of St Anthony of Padua last friday night. It was open church evening. Inside there were some very beautifull paintings of the 'stages'? It appeared they came from a demolished church (the amount of demolished churches is imense and is still going on) The paintings lately have been restored for 30.000 euro. They are created by a local painter from Utrecht.
The full painting.

Coffee and a read
Photo of my crossed leg in the lounge area of Hotel New York in Rotterdam. I was to meet a friend for a dinner. Since I was very early I sat in the lounge area and sniffed up the nice atmosphere which seems to be allways present at Hotel New York. If you are ever giving Rotterdam a visit, it is great place for a coffee, lunch or dinner. Make sure to make a reservation though! (and take the water taxi)

Sitting...
I always thought it to be a lonely sad monument, since I know what it stands for I know why. At times a rabbi and some followers gather to do commemoration services there.

Saint George and the dragon, Sint Joris en de draak
From the moment houses were build of stone up to the 1850's (somewhere there) it was the custom each house to have an ornament with some scene identifying the purpose of the building.
This house has the scene of St George with the dragon. A scene you see quite often, though it is Saint Martin who is the actual protection saint of Holland. A fight with a dragon speaks more to the imagination then sharing half of your property with the poor, I reason....

Two more
I stay one post more with the Gouda cheese, I like both pictures.
For some reason national folklore, habbits, customs and food is getting more and more attention and is in fashion. One of them is paintings of cows. Loads of people make and sell cow pictures. You also start to see them more on products..

Gouda cheese day
There is some kind of cheese festival in town. Woerden is one of the area's of which the farmers supply Gouda cheese.
There were wagons with people in national costume (and a cheese maker).
Miss Leiden Cheese was making advertisments for cheese from Leiden.
I wonder how long cheese can stay in the sun, it's pretty warm and sunny today.
A choir of farmers wifes sung a cheese song.
Hungry for some cheese now? If you were here you could take a bite and taste... :P
